ALLAN RAISES CONCERNS ABOUT LOCAL BANK
SNP MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Alasdair Allan, has written to the Bank of Scotland to raise concerns in North Uist about potential reductions in the opening hours of the branch in Lochmaddy.
Currently the Lochmaddy branch is open between 9.30am and 4.30pm Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Concerns have been raised locally that the bank are planning to scale this down to just two days a week.
Alasdair Allan met with councillors and community councillors in Lochmaddy this week and has taken the issue up with the Bank’s headquarters.
Alasdair Allan commented:
“My understanding is that the Bank of Scotland in Lochmaddy will be open two, rather than three, days a week in future. On other days of the week this could leave people in North Uist with a round trip of up to 60 miles to get to the nearest alternative branch in Balivanich.
“Obviously I am anxious to hear that the branch has a long term future in Lochmaddy and have taken up the issue with the Bank’s headquarters in Edinburgh.
“Island communities depend on basic services like this to be viable and I would hope that the bank can now give some commitments that will reassure the community.”
